ALISSON gifted Gabriel Martinelli a tap-in with a shocking blunder during Liverpool’s clash with Arsenal.
With the match finely poised at 1-1 in the 67th minute a long, aimless ball sailed towards Alisson.
Alisson came charging out of his goal
Gabriel Martinelli couldn’t believe his luck
Virgil van Dijk attempted to shield his goalkeeper from the lurking Martinelli.
But the Dutchman couldn’t have accounted for what happened next.
Rather than boot the ball away, Alisson bafflingly sprinted past the ball.
Martinelli could scarcely believe his luck, tapping the ball into the unguarded net to give Arsenal a priceless 2-1 lead.
Fans couldn’t believe what they’d just seen, with one writing: “Allison that is CRIMINAL… game of errors!”
While a second posted: “What a calamity from VVD and Allison.”
And a third wrote: “What are Allison and Van Dijk doing?, that’s ridiculous mix-up”
Another added: “Alisson & VanDijk the chuckle brothers there. Deary me.”
After the match, Van Dijk also apologized to the whole team: “Eventually a very tough day..I think the 2-1, I take full responsibility for that. It’s a big turning point. I should have done better, it hurts for me and it hurts for the team.” (Sky)
Arsenal had gone 1-0 up via Bukayo Saka’s 14th minute tap-in.
Liverpool pegged them back in more farcical circumstances on the stroke of half-time, when dilly-dallying by William Saliba allowed Luis Diaz to prod the ball in off Gabriel Magalhaes.
Then, Alisson’s terrifying moment gave the Gunners the advantage back.
After that, the visitors’ situation worsened when Ibrahima Konate was given a second yellow card for pushing Kai Havertz.
Then, Leandro Trossard slipped the ball between Alisson’s legs and in to wrap up Arsenal’s 3-1 victory.
