‘Many years’ – Liverpool star Curtis Jones mocked Arteta for ‘stealing Klopp’s icon’ after wild celebrations of Arsenal

CURTIS JONES mocked Arsenal for “stealing our stuff” when they celebrated beating Liverpool 3-1 at the Emirates on Sunday.

The Gunners’ huge victory kept them in the Premier League title race as they closed the gap to Jurgen Klopp’s men to just two points.

Klopp often fist-pumps in front of the Kop after games at Anfield

After the match, manager Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard was seen taking photos on the pitch.

Jamie Carragher was not a fan of the behaviour as he told Sky Sports: “Just get down the tunnel.

“You’ve won a game. It’s three points. They’re back in the title race, get down the tunnel. I’m serious, honestly.”

Meanwhile, manager Mikel Arteta produced three fist pumps in front of the home fans in a similar manner to how Klopp often celebrates before the Kop at Anfield.

Football fans made this connection and labelled Arteta “petty”, insisting he needs to get his “own identity”.

And now Liverpool man Jones, 23, has had his say on the matter.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: “In a respectful way, I’d say the celebrations and all that is all nice but for many years we’ve always been a team that… our fans are spoken about and the gaffer himself, the way he fist-pumps the fans and stuff.

“That’s kind of like our thing. So if they want to be stealing our stuff then it shows that we’re on the right path and we’ve got these who are copying us.”

After Leandro Trossard’s stoppage-time goal gave Arsenal all three points, Arteta stormed out of his technical area, avoiding punishment from the FA.

That being said, the club will be fined a standard £25,000 because six of its players received bookings during the match.

Another former player who offered commentary on the Arsenal celebrations was Manchester United legend Gary Neville.

He said: “I have gone past the idea of having a go at players for celebrating, I just still think there is a little bit of immaturity in their celebrations.”

But Odegaard responded: “Everyone who loves football, who understands football, they know how much it means to win this game.

“And if you’re not allowed to celebrate when you win a game, when are you allowed to celebrate? We’re happy with the win and we’ll stay humble.”
