CLASS ACT: Kobbie Mainoo showed basic skills when appearing in the training session of Man United U18 team

Kobbie Mainoo has reaffirmed himself as one of the most likable players in the Premier League with an incredibly classy gesture after Manchester United’s win against Luton Town.

The 18-year-old midfielder featured from the start and was by far United’s most composed player throughout their 2-1 win at the weekend.

The only real negative from Mainoo’s performance is a yellow card which takes him just two more away from a suspension, however, it was universally agreed on commentary that the youngster’s challenge should not have even been awarded as a foul.

Since making his first start at Goodison Park in November, Mainoo has emerged as a consistent presence under Erik ten Hag, featuring in 15 matches and starting 13 of them.

The 18-year-old’s impressive performances have sparked speculation of a potential call-up to the England national team, with Gareth Southgate reportedly contemplating including Mainoo in the squad for the upcoming matches against Brazil and Belgium next month.

With the selection of Jordan Henderson and Kalvin Phillips consistently scrutinised by fans and the media, it seems there is a real opportunity for Mainoo to cement himself in the England set-up with the Euros just around the corner.

It’s not just his on-field performances that are raising eyebrows either, as the United man demonstrated what a great character he is in training on Monday morning.

The teenage midfielder made a surprise appearance at an Under-18s training session on Monday, having finished his recovery work with the senior squad following their victory at Luton.

The first-team training session was open for the pre-academy group to see in the morning. The guys then signed autographs and took pictures with the kids.

Mainoo’s character is clearly demonstrated by this kind of approach, and it is encouraging for Manchester United and England’s future that such a modest young talent is emerging. His strength comes from rigorous exercise and a healthy diet that have completely eliminated his “wiry” appearance.

Many have been taken aback by Mainoo’s changes throughout the years, including Cheadle and Steve Vare, the academy chief of FC Gately, who has known him since he was five years old.
