GENIUS VISION: Fans praise Onana as Man Utd star makes a FLASH pass to defeat Man City’s defense

Manchester United are leading 1-0 at the Etihad, thanks to Marcus Rashford’s banger of a goal within the first 10 minutes.

Make no mistake, Rashford scored a beautiful goal into the top corner to baffle the home side.

However, it would not have been possible without Andre Onana’s incredible long pass.

Right before the goal, Onana collects the ball and sends a long pass that lands beyond the Manchester City backline.

It falls to Nathan Ake but the ball is then won by Bruno Fernandes, who times it perfectly to find Rashford.

It was a tough shot to nail but Rashford made no mistake as he gave Man United the lead.

Aside from his contribution to United’s opener, Red Devils fans were impressed with how Onana commanded his box in the match and his confidence in playing against City.

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, were quick to praise Onana’s performance in the Manchester derby.

Red Devils supporters hailed his display against City, with one United fan claiming that he showed shades of the player that he was at Inter Milan last season.

“The pass by Onana. The run and hold-up play by Bruno. The finish by Rashford. Everything was inch perfect,” one fan said.

Another added: “Andre Onana’s passing in the Manchester derby had been sensational.”

“In fairness to Onana, he looks like he is growing into being a United ‘keeper,” a third tweeted.

Someone else commented: “This is the Onana I saw in the UCL [Champions League] final last season.”

And a sixth posted: “Onana [has] been brilliant so far today – he’s quite clearly capable, it’s just about cutting out the brainless errors [and] being consistent!”

One X user argued: “De Gea could NEVER have made the pass Onana did before Rashford’s goal, even if he tried 3,000 times.”

While another said: “Onana must be wearing his Inter shirt underneath that United one today, he’s on it!”

Andre Onana has faced criticism in his debut season at Manchester United after the Red Devils signed him in a deal worth £47.2m from Inter Milan last summer.

The 27-year-old United star faced a tall order in replacing club legend David de Gea, who left Old Trafford at the end of last season, between the sticks at the Red Devils.

However, United manager Erik ten Hag has kept faith in Onana this season, despite the Cameroonian facing mounting pressure over his howlers and inconsistencies.

Despite making errors in the Champions League, Onana has been solid as United’s No 1 in the Premier League and weathered the criticism he has faced at the club.

The Cameroon international firmly remains in the race for the Premier League Golden Glove, which was won by former United star David de Gea last season.
