In 366 games over his 11 years with United, he scored 126 goals.

And in the 1999 Champions League final, he famously scored the game-winning goal against Bayern Munich with a last-second charge.

Even though the team has struggled on the field, Solskjaer returned to United as manager in 2018 and, despite being fired in 2021, he continues to be revered.

India is home to an astounding 38% of United’s global fan base, according to data from YouGov.

As a result, 50-year-old Solskjaer declared he was going to start a three-city tour of the nation.

And on Saturday, after visiting Bengaluru, he arrived at Mumbai airport to the cheers of thousands of people.

Along with his well-known chant, Solskjaer was met with crowds of people eager to get a close-up look and selfie with the six-time Premier League winner.

After the clip went viral, supporters closer to home could not help poking fun at the scenes.

One asked: “Did he get even 1% of such reception at his exit in Manchester?”

Another commented: “Well done lads..that’s how a hero should be welcomed!”

A third added: “This is sensational.”

Ahead of the trip, Solskjaer said: “I am truly thrilled to finally be here in India and meet the nation’s Red Devils.
