Aaron Ramsdale went from hiding his face in the first half against Brentford to celebrating a late Arsenal winner in the second.

A late Kai Havertz winner ensured that he saved Ramsdale’s blushes and put the Gunners at the top of the English Premier League table.

Arsenal now lead Liverpool by a point and Manchester City by two, ahead of the showdown between those two sides tomorrow.

And while fans of the London-based team celebrated Havertz’s winner, Ramsdale was the most relieved by it, as his celebration showed.

Arsenal was leading from the 19th minute thanks to Declan Rice and it looked like they would take the lead into the halftime break.

Yoane Wissa then bagged Brentford’s equaliser, thanks to an error by Ramsdale. The Arsenal keeper took his time on the ball after receiving a backpass but was quickly closed down by Wissa. The striker managed to get in front of the keeper before he could clear it and knocked the ball into the back of the net, GOAL noted.

Despite the howler in the first half, the keeper did prove himself in the second. Ramsdale made some crucial saves, including stopping an audacious long-range effort from Ivan Toney.

Raya was signed by Mikel Arteta from Brentford, although the move caused controversy among supporters.

Ramsdale’s form declined, so Raya was brought in, and now the two are fighting for the top spot.
