‘I made my name’ – Jadon Sancho speaks out as shining to send Dortmund into Champions League quarter-finals after leave Man Utd

Jadon Sancho thanked Borussia Dortmund for ‘believing’ in him after sending the German giants through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Dortmund were held to a 1-1 draw away at PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their last 16 clash but Sancho’s goal after just three minutes saw them tighten their grip on the tie on Wednesday night.

The winger, who returned to the club on loan from Manchester United during the January transfer window, found the back of the net with a low effort from the edge of the box.

Marco Reus wrapped up the win in the second-half, securing a 3-1 aggregate victory that sees Dortmund reach the quarter-finals for the first time in three years.

Sancho, who joined United in a £72million deal in 2021, made just three appearances for the Premier League side this season after falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.

His goal tonight followed his first for Dortmund since returning, getting on the scoresheet in the 2-1 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday.

‘I’ve always got a special place for Borussia Dortmund,’ Sancho told TNT Sport.

‘This is where I kind of made my name.

‘I’ve got to be grateful to them, but also to my team-mates, just for believing in me. I’m just happy that we got the win today.

‘Coming into the game, we knew it was going to be tough, but I felt like coming into this game, we always had the advantage because we’re playing in front of our home fans.

‘From the beginning of the game, I just knew from the dressing room team talk, we were on it. From the first whistle to the last, we just stuck at our game plan and I’m just happy that we got the win.’

Dortmund will learn their fate when the quarter-final and semi-final draws for the Champions League are made on Friday.

They join Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain in reaching the next stage.

During the time he was on the pitch, the United loanee registered 50 touches of the ball. He successfully delivered 20 of the 26 passes he attempted, managing a pass accuracy of 77%.

The 23-year-old made two key passes. He found his target with one of his two crossing attempts.

Sancho embarked on five dribbles and completed just two of these. The forward delved into 13 ground duels. He came out on top on five occasions.

The England international won three tackles.

Sancho certainly seems to be turning a corner after he admitted himself that he hasn’t been good enough for Dortmund. No doubt he will be looking to make an impact again when the Bundesliga giants take on Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend.
