SLOW MOTION: Legend Jamie Carragher harshly criticizes Cody Gakpo as Liverpool waste 5v2 counter before Antony leveller for Man Utd

The Reds snatched a 2-1 lead heading into half-time at Old Trafford, after finding themselves under the cosh for much of the opening 45 minutes.

But following goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah, Jurgen Klopp‘s side were far too casual, and despite dominating much of the second half, they failed to find a cutting edge.

That was not helped by the decision to bring off a half-fit Salah and send on Gakpo in the 77th minute, with the Dutchman having little influence on the game.

The telling contribution was his wasteful pass seeing a five-on-two break crumble at 2-1 up, while there was little else in terms of redeeming features.

Liverpool wasted a five-against-two counter-attack in the 78th minute of the game.

Cody Gakpo had the ball at his feet and took too much time to release it. When he did, he played a rather poor pass to Elliott, who got stuck in traffic as United defenders had already returned.

There was no surprise, then, that Gakpo attracted criticism from many Liverpool supporters after the 4-3 loss.

Through his personal page, former Liverpool defend Jamie Carragher criticized striker Cody Gakpo after the 3-4 defeat in the FA Cup quarterfinals against Man United.

The dream of winning 4 of coach Jurgen Klopp and his team is no longer there after a bitter defeat against great rival Man United. Liverpool took the lead twice, including in extra time. Goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah and Harvey Elliott were not enough to ensure a place at Wembley for The Kop.

Because Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo scored in the final 15 minutes to send the Red Devils into the semi-finals, where they will face Championship side Coventry City.

Despite conceding 4 goals, Liverpool legend Carragher did not blame the defenders. Instead, he took to social media to criticize Cody Gakpo, who was brought on to replace Salah in the 77th minute. Gakpo could have even ended the match with a chance in the 78th minute, but the Dutch striker was able to miss.

“Gakpo plays like the game is in slow motion,” shared the former Anfield midfielder. And others agreed.

Cody Gakpo Criticised By Liverpool Legend Jamie Carragher

One fan joked: “Can we sell Gakpo to United during the interval, Danns would do more?”

“Gakpo time to go back to Eredivisie buddy that’s your ceiling,” a second fan wrote.

“Gakpo should have gone to United,” a third commented.

“Gakpo has been so useless this season. I don’t generally like to trash our players but his level just hasn’t been where it needs to be,” another added.

The Reds were 2-1 up at that time and the goal would have sealed the win for Liverpool. However, they failed to score and Antony equalised a few minutes later.
