Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are an inspiration for many football fans and current football players. Only a couple of players had the privilege to play with both players in their careers, and one of them has not hidden the fact about who he prefers.
Alejandro Garnacho has openly expressed in the past that his idol was Cristiano Ronaldo despite playing with the Argentina national team with Messi. Another Manchester United player has done something similar in regards to Ronaldo and Messi but the other way around when he scored in Manchester United’s 4-3 win against Liverpool in the FA Cup.
Amad Diallo admits copying Messi’s celebration
Amad used to be Ronaldo’s teammate
Man United’s Amad Diallo scored in the 120th minute against Liverpool to help United win 4-3 and advance to the semifinals of the FA Cup. Old Trafford went wild, and Diallo celebrated with the fans by taking off his shirt and showing it to everyone there.
It is the same celebration as Lionel Messi’s iconic shirt celebration against Real Madrid in 2017. This was recognized by many football fans, but Diallo confirmed that it was a reference to Messi in a TikTok story.
Diallo spoke after the game and expressed how he felt after scoring the winner for Man United. Diallo said, “Dream come true. That goal will give me a lot of confidence and I want to continue like this. I’m very happy. The most important thing is to win this game.”
After the match when asked by a reporter: “Who is your idol?”
Amad Diallo replied: “I will say Messi because I love Messi!”
Many were happy to see Diallo score this goal as he has struggled to play minutes with Manchester United this season. He was on loan to Sunderland last season and was brought back for this season. Manchester United manager Ten Hag spoke after the game about how he felt about Diallo scoring a goal.
Ten Hag, “I am so happy for him. That is one of the players who had huge setbacks this season… He doesn’t always get the time he deserves from his training performances. But then he is coming on, shows his contribution scoring a goal. We know he can do it.”
