Proof that hard work pays off, no one deserves it more
Joe Gomez in an England shirt is all I need. This close to the end of the season, some Liverpool supporters may find it difficult to muster much excitement for an international break, but Joe Gomez appears to be really happy to be playing for the England team. The 26-year-old put an end to his three-and-a-half-year ban from the national team this month when he was called back to Gareth Southgate’s squad for their forthcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium. His final cap came against Wales at an empty Wembley in October 2020 (Transfermarkt)..The Reds defender, who was leaving the rear seat of the automobile he was traveling in, had a beaming smile on his face when he stepped out of the vehicle in the picture shared by the England team’s official social media platforms.Gomez has had to wait a long time for an England return since a significant injury has hindered him in the interim, but it is a well-deserved reward for his outstanding performances for Liverpool this season, where he has been a rock of consistency in an Anfield back four that is always shifting.Personally, I’d love to see him play for his country in the coming days, but we’ll be crossing our fingers that he and his teammates survive their national team matches since there are some far larger games coming up, starting on Easter Sunday against Brighton!
