Man Utd No1 Andre Onana impressed with a miraculous double save at Brentford

Erik ten Hag’s summer signing may have started off his Old Trafford tenure in dismal form – but he looked anything but at Brentford on Saturday. And it was largely thanks to the Cameroon goalkeeper that the Red Devils came away with a share of the spoils.

Thomas Frank was left wondering how his side didn’t manage to take a lead at the Gtech Community Stadium despite peppering Onana’s goal. And one particularly impressive double save from the United No1 around the hour mark spared United’s blushes.

The former Ajax and Inter Milan stopper had his reflexes tested by Yegor Yarmoluk’s effort from 12 yards. But it was the rebound response to Keane Lewis-Potter’s follow-up that really impressed.

“Those scuff shots sometimes are the ones that beat keepers,” said Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith. “But he’s back up on his feet so quickly!”

Onana kept United in the tie but ultimately failed to keep his clean sheet

Onana’s heroics were almost enough to secure all three points as substitute Mason Mount found the back of the net after 97 minutes. However, the United defence was finally breached at the death as Kristoffer Ajer secured a draw for the Bees.

In just a few minutes, Ten Hag’s team went from believing that Mount’s first goal for the team deserved a thrilling victory to having their advantage wiped out. Onana, to his credit, was unable to prevent the late finish much on his own.

The Cameroonian lost out on what could have been one of his best moments wearing United colors. Having said that, it seems like Onana has managed to get past his early nerves and turn into a crucial component of Ten Hag’s team.
