On Thursday, Liverpool defeated Sheffield United 3-1 and took back the top spot in the Premier League thanks to a spectacular strike from Alexis Mac Allister.
Darwin Nunez had given Jurgen Klopp’s squad the lead at Anfield in the first half, but Conor Bradley’s own goal in the second half gave Sheffield United a chance to even the score.
In the 76th minute, Mac Allister calmed the nerves in the Liverpool team by blasting a long-range attempt into the top corner, preventing the team from losing ground in the title fight.
In the ninetieth minute, replacement Cody Gakpo headed in a third to seal the victory.
Liverpool overtook Arsenal at the top by two points, but it had to fight hard to overcome Sheffield United, who were in last position.
When Nunez leaped to stop Sheffield goalkeeper Ivo Grbic’s attempt at a clearing in the 17th, the Merseyside team needed some luck to grab the lead.
The ball ricocheted off the forward, past Grbic, and into the empty net with his back to it.
Following the interval, Bradley gave the visitors an unexpected way back in the 58th minute when he threw Gustavo Hamer’s header into his own net.
However, Mac Allister’s thunderous strike turned the tide of the game in Liverpool’s favor, and he had a late chance to add more when he struck the crossbar with a free kick that came just before Gakpo’s header.
