Liverpool is in a strong position to recruit Liga Nos winners Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio.
In an exclusive report published by Caught Offside, it was revealed that the Reds are first in line to sign the Portuguese international.
Apart from Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United are interested in signing the center defender.
Unlike Liverpool, the Red Devils and Magpies will be unable to provide Inacio Champions League football next season.
The 22-year-old defender’s current deal includes a £52 million release clause, and he wants to go to the Premier League.
Liverpool has been pursuing Inacio for some time, and according to CO, they will negotiate again in the hope of eventually completing the signing.
Sporting has only conceded 29 goals in 32 league games, with the Seleccao star leading the backline under Ruben Amorim.
For the time being, the Reds hope to reach an agreement with their captain, Virgil van Dijk, to renew their contract. However, sooner rather than later, they will require a new defensive commander to take over for the Dutch.
Matip is poised to leave when his contract expires next month, and the Merseysiders will need to restructure their backline under the next boss.
In your opinion, is Inacio good enough to captain Liverpool’s defense? Should the Reds spend the cash to finalize the signing?
