RED THUNDER: Mason Greenwood sent a ‘strong’ message to Man Utd after being the only ray of light with ‘7 dribbles, 20 duels’ in Getafe’s 1-0 loss to Cadiz

Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood was brilliant and distinguished himself despite Getafe’s shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of 18th-placed Cadiz on Sunday afternoon.

Ruben Alcaraz’s penalty kick in the first half was sufficient to give Cadiz the victory and worsen Getafe’s situation.

Now that Greenwood and his teammates have lost two straight games, their chances of winning European football have been severely damaged.

The United player was started up front by Jose Bordalas alongside Jaime Mate in a somewhat modified 5-3-2 formation.

During the 90 minutes plus the six added minutes, Greenwood managed two shots but neither required Cadiz’s Jeremias Ledesma to swing into action or intervene as they were off-target.

The 22-year-old was especially good in his carrying of the ball and advancing towards the opponent’s territory. He successfully completed seven of the 13 dribbles or take-ons he embarked on.

Greenwood registered a total of 57 touches of the ball and delivered 27 of the 32 passes he attempted to find his teammates with. He had an individual pass completion rate of 84%. It’s important to note that two of his passes were key passes.

The forward attempted one cross and delivered two long balls. While he successfully found his intended target with both long balls, his cross failed to connect.

He delved into 20 ground duels and won 11 of them.

In terms of aerial challenges, Greenwood was not required to contest any at all. He drew in three could and made one crucial clearance. He also put in as many tackles.

Greenwood is certainly finishing the last month of his loan spell at Estadio Coliseum in strong fashion.

Against Cadiz, he once again showed why a number of top clubs in Europe are chasing his signature and are keen to add him to their ranks.

The Englishman also gave United a timely reminder of what he could bring back to the side if he were to be allowed to play for the Red Devils again.
