This was not the first time this season that Darwin Nunez seemed to have squandered the chance.
After failing to salute Jurgen Klopp during his guard of honor on Sunday at Anfield, Darwin Nunez has come under fire from Liverpool fans.
On the last day of the Premier League season, Klopp bid farewell to the Liverpool supporters and ended his nine-year tenure in the league.
After Liverpool defeated Wolves 2-0 at home, players and staff presented the 56-year-old with a guard of honor. During his tenure at Anfield, the footballer led Liverpool to seven major trophies.
During the LFC guard of honor, Nunez was seen not cheering for Klopp, saying, “Get this manchild gone.”
Every player is seen clapping Klopp as he passes by in video footage captured by a Liverpool fan, except Nunez stood with his arms lowered and one hand over the other.
Nunez’s behavior was also observed by Liverpool supporters after Klopp’s statement to the team in the changing room following the match. The Uruguayan international once again sat there with his head in his hand and did not applaud the German.
After watching the footage, one Liverpool supporter wrote on X: ‘Get him gone. Haven’t seen a player given so much love by the fans and manager and yet be so ungrateful.’
Another Liverpool fan wrote: ‘To those saying it’s not a big deal, it really is. I love Nunez as a player – he is electric. But this isn’t a player issue. This is a character issue. Just clap. It’s simple.
‘If he can’t figure that out or, even worse, didn’t clap intentionally, then we need to look at if he is a fit for Liverpool over the summer.’
However, recently new photos have appeared proving that Klopp and Nunez’s relationship is still good when the Uruguayan striker still applauds Klopp.
Camera made that look a lot worse
It has seemingly dispelled any rumours of discontent after the Uruguayan was thought not to have clapped the German boss on his guard of honour.

One Liverpool fan commented on X after seeing the video, saying, “Get him gone.” I’ve never seen a player be so unappreciative despite receiving so much affection from the manager and supporters.
“To those saying it’s not a big deal, it really is,” commented another Liverpool supporter in a comment. Nunez is a terrific player, and I adore him. However, this isn’t a player problem. This is a matter of character. Simply clap. It’s easy.
“If he is unable to understand that or, in the worst case scenario, did not clap on purpose, we should consider whether he would be a good summer transfer to Liverpool.”
Recently, though, fresh images have surfaced showing that Nunez and Klopp are still happy together, as evidenced by the Uruguayan striker’s continued applause for Klopp.
That appeared much worse in the camera.
It appears to have put an end to any unhappiness that may have arisen when it was believed that the Uruguayan had not given the German CEO a pat on his guard of honor.
