Liverpool, who are in the running to acquire Lille defender Leny Yoro, have discovered a possible replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to Le Parisien, the Reds will fight with European heavyweights like Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain to recruit the gifted 18-year-old center defender. The Premier League team will, however, have a difficult time acquiring the young player as Lille is expected to demand a hefty transfer price of between €90 million and €100 million (£77 million and £85 million).
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The French player has been named by the Merseyside club as the long-term replacement for virtuoso defender Virgil van Dijk, who has just one year left on his deal. The 32-year-old has been linked to moves to Saudi Pro League teams and Bayern Munich, but he has remained silent on his future.

Yoro, who is in just his third season as a senior professional, has made 44 appearances for his club in all competitions. The team placed fourth in Ligue 1 in the 2023–24 season and qualified for the Champions League.
WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?
The players are presently enjoying their off-season, but they will return to action in July when they head to the US for preseason training with new manager Arne Slot.
