Brazil’s Copa América campaign got off to a disastrous start. Despite having nearly 70% of the ball, the Selecao was unable to get past Costa Rica’s goal.
In the eleventh minute, the first dangerous opportunity presented itself. Rodrygo made a break and missed the target with his shot. In the twenty-fiveth minute, Raphinha raced down to confront Patrick Sequeira, but his shot was blocked.
The Brazilian player cheered after Marquinhos tapped in his teammate’s free kick in the thirty-first minute. But VAR established that the Selecao player wasn’t onside.
In the second half, Brazil continued to put Costa Rica under pressure. The strikers for the South American club put in a lot of effort to finish, but it was not clear what was possible.
Lucas Paqueta fired a hard effort from outside the box in the 63rd minute, but it struck the Costa Rican goalpost. Coach Dorival Junior changed things up a lot. On the other hand, players like Endrick and Savinho had no effect.
Towards the end of the game, the whole Costa Rican team withdrew inside their own half. Brazil is now even more stuck as a result.
