Ronaldo redeemed himself following his penalty miss in extra-time and he immediately apologised to the Portugal fans after converting his spot-kick in the shootout, summing up his elite mentality.

After slotting his penalty past Jan Oblak, the 39-year-old immediately gestured towards the fans behind the goal, putting his hands up as he acknowledged his error in extra-time.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was inconsolable after Oblak saved his first penalty of the game, but as Portugal advanced to the next round, the superstar forward was beaming.
