LiverpoolThis summer, Liverpool may try to sign Adam Wharton by JitAugust 2, 2024
Journalist David Lynch claims that Liverpool may try to buy Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton this summer.
Following Oliver Glasner’s appointment as the new manager, the Eagles turned around their dismal start to the previous campaign and finished in the top half of the Premier League.
As a result, during this transfer window, a number of their talents have slipped the attention of major European teams. While Eberechi Eze has been linked to a move away from the club, with Arsenal, Tottenham, and even Liverpool expressing interest in recruiting him, Michael Olise has already joined Bayern Munich.
Another youngster, Wharton, went to Selhurst Park from Blackburn Rovers in January and since then, his eye-catching displays have drawn the attention of a few elite English clubs.
Speaking on Born N’Red, Lynch now claims that Liverpool was keeping an eye on Wharton’s progress while he was at Blackburn Rovers and that they were impressed with him at the time.
Liverpool to Wharton
The journalist goes on to say that Liverpool may be looking to buy the 20-year-old this summer after he pleased them with his promising performances for Crystal Palace last season and became an England international.
Lynch, though, notes that Liverpool won’t find it easy to recruit the young player since the Eagles, who just bought him, are likely to demand “crazy” money in order to release their star player.
The recruitment team at Blackburn clearly kind of liked Adam Wharton, as he was someone they monitored closely. That seems interesting to me. The primary issue is, of course, what would Palace request? He was only recently signed by them, and since then, he has only recently been an England international. His value has increased dramatically. They would drive a hard bargain and the charge might be outrageous.
“But let’s see. Because they have liked him in the past, I don’t think you can rule that one out with confidence. I’m sure from what they’ve seen at Palace they won’t have gone off him. That’s one maybe to keep an eye on but that’s real tentative stuff to be honest. It’s a player they’ve liked in the past so let’s see if anything comes of that.”
With Arne Slot reportedly looking to sign a new midfielder, Wharton would be an excellent acquisition if Liverpool purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign him before the end of this window.
