When Trent Alexander-Arnold returned to Liverpool following rumours of a Real Madrid deal, Darwin Nunez made light of him.
Consequently, what happened?
The right-back was linked to Madrid for a large portion of 2024, but no deal materialised. The 25-year-old joined the Liverpool team after representing England in the Euro 2024, and when he did, teammate Nunez used the opportunity to discuss the Spanish powerhouses with his colleague.
WHAT ARNE SLOT SAID
Before the Euros, Alexander-Arnold chatted with his former Feyenoord manager, who took over as Liverpool manager earlier this summer after Jurgen Klopp. The manager expressed his happiness to have Alexander-Arnold back.
“We didn’t talk about his commitment, we just talked about the way I wanted him to play and how he could fit in that style,” he said to The Athletic. He was mostly preoccupied with the Euros when we chatted, and from what I’ve seen in subsequent footage, he appears to be in excellent shape. I’m excited to watch him work out.”
WHAT NEXT?
Sunday at Anfield sees Slot and Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool wrap up their preseason campaign. On August 17, they travel to newly promoted Ipswich Town to begin their Premier League campaign.
