In the midst of a relatively quiet summer transfer window, Liverpool is still interested in signing Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United and England. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a return to Merseyside—this time on the red side—may occur in the latter part of the summer, speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT.Despite being the only team in the English top flight without a transfer, Arne Slot is quietly getting ready for his first season leading the former champions of the Premier League. They had a wonderful preseason, winning games against Manchester United, Real Betis, and Arsenal.
Liverpool: Anthony Gordon Latest
Reds still yet to lodge a bid
Gordon was called up to the final England team for Euro 2024 as a result of his stellar 23–24 season with the Magpies, which saw him record 12 goals and 11 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.
Even though he didn’t play much in Germany, Liverpool, who are preparing for Slot’s first major season as manager, has taken notice of his impressive performances in 2023–2024 for his Premier League employers.
Despite the paucity of news coming out of the Anfield camp in recent weeks, sources close to GIVEMESPORT have disclosed that a deal for the Newcastle gem—a four-cap England international—is still in the works this summer.
Romano also hinted that Liverpool continues to be quite fond of the brilliant winger, who came out of Everton’s system and played 78 games for the Toffees, even though they haven’t made a proposal yet.
Romano: Gordon Action Even so, a “Possibility”
No new dialogues between clubs
The always dependable Romano said in an exclusive interview with GIVEMESPORT that Gordon’s transfer to Anfield is still a “possibility” for the Reds in the final stages of the trade window, despite the fact that there haven’t been any recent “club-to-club” talks. While maintaining that a move to Liverpool is not likely, the football insider disclosed that Newcastle is eager to keep him on past the summer. Romano stated:
“I think Liverpool still has a chance to do that in the last few weeks of the transfer window if they lower the price at Newcastle.” However, since Newcastle has not received a proposal, I’m not hearing that this is something that will happen very soon. There’s still no new dialogue from club to club.
Therefore, we must observe how the domino players play out. However, it’s not really an emergency right now, and we also need to show respect for Newcastle since they want to keep Anthony Gordon on staff. Thus, while it won’t be simple at all, the gratitude is unequivocally verified.
Zubimendi is now the No. 6 Target for the Reds as they consider their options.
As previously said, Liverpool is not planning a summer move. Paul Joyce of The Times reports that Slot and Co are debating whether to pursue Martin Zubimendi, a midfielder for Real Sociedad. The £51 million release clause on the Spaniard, which Slot and his team may try to activate in the upcoming weeks, makes the player’s transfer to Merseyside a pretty easy transaction to complete.
The 25-year-old scored five goals in 45 appearances last season alone (four goals and one assist), all of which came in Spain’s top league. But his greatest contribution is intangible; his stocky body gives him enough cover for the back four.
