Reports surfaced suggesting Manchester City was ‘ready to pay £60m’ for Luis Diaz, a key player for Liverpool; however, the club has refuted any allegations that they had reached an agreement with him.
El Chiringuito TV has been spreading rumours that Pep Guardiola’s team is about to raid the talented forward of their title opponent, claiming that a “five-year agreement” has been reached.
As per Marcos Benito, the reporter on the show, City was ‘ready to spend €70million’ for the wide player.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that the eight-time Premier League champions have refuted the outrageous allegations.
“Manchester City sources deny any agreement with Luís Diaz after recent reports,” he wrote on X, the previous Twitter platform.
Manchester City have denied claims that they have agreed a deal with Liverpool star Luis Diaz
Rumours have been circulating today that Diaz might be bound for the Etihad Stadium
The Colombian forward scored two goals in the host’s triumphant showing against Sevilla
The ludicrous rumours surfaced after Diaz scored twice in his debut game as new head coach Arne Slot’s team crushed Sevilla 4-1 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Although the Colombian has enjoyed impressive runs of form for the Reds since signing two years ago, he has not been able to duplicate Sadio Mane’s unwavering goal-scoring ability at Anfield.
Diaz has managed 24 goals in 98 appearances, or about one per 4.08 matches, compared to Mane’s 120 goals in 269 games for the Reds, or a strike every 2.24 games on average.
While Diaz, 27, had a strong start to the previous season, he was forced to miss time due to his father’s kidnapping in Colombia, which was beyond his control.
Individual sessions have been held by Slot and his backroom team to improve forwards’ movement off the ball, and Diaz immediately seems to be benefiting from the extra guidance.
During the weekend, Diaz entered the game from the left and shot the ball straight into the upper corner of the goal.
Though it was a tap-in for his second, he was in the right position at the right moment.
The future of Diaz has been the subject of much conjecture during the summer, and according to recent rumours, the Saudi Arabian Pro League is reportedly interested in signing him as they aim to bring in younger players.

Fans are hopeful Diaz will start this season in good form after impressing in his first match under new boss Arne Slot
The 27-year-old, who cost £37.5 million to acquire from Porto in 2022, has emerged as one of Liverpool’s best players.
With Kylian Mbappe’s departure, PSG has allegedly also contemplated a move for Diaz as a new left flank replacement.
It was stated in May that the Liverpool star was ‘open to joining the Catalan giants to complete a childhood goal’, making him ‘Barcelona’s top summer target’ despite their financial constraints.
