Cristiano Ronaldo was criticized for not leading the Al Nassr stars to the medal ceremony after the Saudi Arabia Super Cup final.
Cristiano Ronaldo was dissatisfied after the Saudi Arabia Super Cup final.
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) Disciplinary and Ethics Committee is considering the possibility of punishing Ronaldo for his disrespectful behavior towards opponents and tournament organizers, the Saudi Times reported.
On August 18, Al Nassr fell 1-4 to Al Hilal in the Saudi Arabian Super Cup final. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opening goal, but his teammates then let Al Hilal score 4 goals in less than 20 minutes, from 55 to 72.
The Portuguese superstar was clearly angry. He made a gesture of putting his hands on his cheeks, implying that his teammates were playing like they were sleepwalking. When the match ended, Ronaldo went straight to the tunnel and refused to attend the awards ceremony, even though CR7 was wearing the captain’s armband of Al Nassr.
Ronaldo’s actions were widely criticized in Saudi Arabia. Many football fans in the country said Ronaldo lacked sportsmanship and acknowledged his opponent’s victory.
Al Hilal is becoming Ronaldo’s obsession as they have regularly defeated Al Nassr in the most important tournaments in Saudi Arabia over the past two years.
As for Ronaldo personally, he still has no official title in the Middle East, except for the Arab Cup friendly championship last summer.
If punished, Ronaldo could face a suspension. In February, CR7 was also suspended for one match after celebrating offensively with Al Shabab fans.
