Virgil van Dijk, the captain of Liverpool, has been selected for the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for the 2023–24 campaign.

After joining the Reds in January 2018, the centre-back gets included in the country’s professional players’ yearly XI for the fourth time.

Van Dijk was also chosen in 2019 and in 2020 and 2022 by his peers.

The Netherlands captain played in 36 league games with two goals last season as Liverpool finished third in the Premier League and qualified for the Champions League once more.

Van Dijk also scored the game-winning goal in extra time when the Reds upset Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley to win the Carabao Cup in February, his first year donning the club armband.

At this evening’s Manchester 2024 PFA Awards gala, his inclusion in the most recent Team of the Year was revealed.
