For FC Barcelona, like it does for the majority of other teams, the number 10 has particular meaning. This number has been worn by some of the club’s greatest legends; Lionel Messi is the most recent legend to do so throughout his incredible tenure there.

 

 

Ansu Fati, who played for Barcelona at a very young age and produced some very impressive performances, was handed this number after Messi left. Despite having spent the previous season on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion and suffering injuries and poor form that derailed his early promising trajectory, he still wears this unique squad number for the Catalan team.

 

 

In the forthcoming preseason, Fati hopes to make an impression on Hansi Flick, the new coach of Barcelona. However, considering the current level of quality and stardom, Lamine Yamal is the player who most deserves to wear the number 10 shirt for the upcoming season.

The 16-year-old is reportedly unsure about wearing this shirt, though, given how his career has changed since the Blaugranes offered him this number following Messi’s departure, according to journalist Jordi Cardero.

 

Lamine wore a number 27 shirt the previous season after making his first team debut with the 39 on his back. He will be competing in the UEFA EURO 2024 with the national squad, wearing the number 19.

Although Yamal is aware that the numbers 10 and 7 have a unique meaning for the first team, he has already donned the jerseys for youth teams.

For the first time in 27 years, there was no number 10 in the Barcelona team during the previous campaign. While Yamal feels he does not now require it and will acquire it later after he has effectively finished additional phases of his development, donning this number will undoubtedly demonstrate his leadership and talent.
