Chelsea face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, determined to take all three points after their opening day defeat to Manchester City.
In the 2nd minute, Chelsea broke the deadlock when from a corner kick on the right wing, Nicolas Jackson had an accurate header, defeating goalkeeper Jose Sa, opening the score of the match.
Having conceded an early goal, Wolves immediately rushed forward to find an equalizer. In the 16th minute, Matheus Cunha put the ball into the Chelsea net but was disallowed by the referee for offside. Two minutes later, Noni Madueke almost made the ‘Wolves’ pay with a tricky dribble and a dangerous shot but could not beat goalkeeper Jose Sa.
In the 27th minute, the balance was restored when Cunha spoke up with an accurate shot from the left corner of the penalty area after a pass from Rayan Ait-Nouri, leveling the score at 1-1.
In high spirits, the Brazilian player almost found the second goal for Wolves when he had a shot in front of the goal but the ball hit the crossbar. After this missed situation, the home team at Molineux unexpectedly conceded a goal. Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez had a quick kick from the home field, Nicolas Jackson accelerated and had an assist for Cole Palmer to finish with 1 touch, lifting the ball over Jose Sa’s head, raising the score to 2-1 for Chelsea.
It was thought that The Blues would have the advantage before the break, but the drama continued to be pushed up when in the 6th minute of extra time, Wolves took advantage of a set-piece situation, Toti had a tactical header for striker Jorgen Strand Larsen to rush in from the front to touch the ball and score, equalizing the score 2-2 after the first half ended.
The following period continued with another goal feast, but this time the game was one-sided in Chelsea’s favor. From the 49th to the 63rd minute, Cole Palmer surprised everyone by scoring a hat-trick, setting up Noni Madueke, who came up from the right wing to score three goals in a row, raising the score to 5-2 for coach Enzo Maresca’s team.
Conceding consecutive goals in less than 15 minutes, the spirit of the Wolves players plummeted and they could no longer rise up to create a surprise. In the 81st minute, new player Joao Felix came on as a substitute and scored his first goal since rejoining The Blues after an assist from another new signing, Pedro Neto.
Winning a resounding 6-2 victory at Molineux, Chelsea showed that they are ready to compete for a high ranking in the coming time.
