Winger Jadon Sancho has officially joined his new club Chelsea on a one-year loan deal with a £25 million buyout clause.
Sancho will wear the number 19 shirt at Chelsea
In the final hours of the 2024 summer transfer window, Chelsea successfully “closed the deal” when reaching an agreement with Man United on the signing of winger Jadon Sancho.
Accordingly, Sancho will wear Chelsea’s shirt on a 1-year loan with a clause to buy next summer. The purchase fee will include a fixed fee of 20 million pounds plus 5 million pounds in additional fees.
At his new club, Sancho will wear the number 19 shirt. This is a number that has belonged to players such as Armando Broja, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Diego Costa, Demba Ba, Paulo Ferreira, Scott Sinclair, Lassana Diarra, Scott Parker and Tore André Flo.
Sancho has never worn the number 19 shirt in his career. He wore the numbers 11, 15, 16, 17 and 7 at Man City’s youth team. At Dortmund, he wore the numbers 34, 11, 10, 8, 7 and 18. When he moved to MU, Sancho only wore the number 25 shirt.
Speaking after signing for Chelsea, Sancho said: “I’m really excited to be here. London is where I grew up and I’m happy to be back. Hopefully I can bring more goals and assists to the team.”
“Enzo Maresca really attracted me to the project at Chelsea. I knew him from my time at Man City. He spoke to me on the phone about this project and what he was building here. And for a young player like me, it was very exciting.”
In addition, Sancho also said goodbye to Man United. On his personal page, he wrote: “Thank you to all the fans, staff and teammates at Man United. Wishing everyone the best in the future.”
