Gary Neville has criticized Dominik Szoboszlai for his “unprofessional” behaviour during Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Sky Sports pundit took issue with Szoboszlai’s decision to showboat instead of scoring a clear opportunity in the second half.
Szoboszlai had a chance to add a fourth goal for Liverpool, but he took his time and checked back inside, allowing United to regain possession.
Neville and fellow pundit Jamie Carragher were baffled by the midfielder’s actions, with Carragher calling it “absolutely ridiculous.”
In particular, if he scored, it would have been Szoboszlai’s first goal of the season
Carragher was furious with the midfielder’s decision not to finish. Speaking live on Sky Sports, he said: “What is he doing? Is he trying to be overconfident? If United had scored an equaliser, the crowd would have gone wild, we saw what happened against Everton yesterday. Szoboszlai’s actions were unacceptable. It was unprofessional.”
Neville went further, saying Szoboszlai should be “absolutely rollicked” by his teammates for his behaviour.
Gary Neville added: “He was joking around. He should be criticised heavily by his team-mates for that. It was sloppy. It’s the kind of thing you can do in training and get reprimanded for, let alone in a game at Old Trafford.”
He labelled the incident “unprofessional” and suggested that Szoboszlai was “trying to be cocky.”
Although he could not score a goal of his own, Szoboszlai probably will not regret it too much because his teammates helped him do it.
Luis Diaz was probably the most prominent name at Old Trafford when he twice made goalkeeper Andre Onana pick the ball out of the net. In addition to Diaz, Mohamed Salah also spoke up with a goal in the beginning of the second half, thereby bringing a resounding 3-0 victory for Liverpool.
The victory helped Liverpool get 9 absolute points after 3 matches, however, the “Red Brigade” still ranked second when behind the leader Man City on goal difference.
