Argentina easily defeated Chile to solidify their top position in the group, a match within the South American World Cup qualifiers.
On the morning of September 6 (Vietnam time), the Argentina team hosted Chile at home in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in South America. With superior class, La Albiceleste easily controlled the game. However, Chile showed discomfort and certainty in their playing style. Chile almost took the lead at the end of the first half. In the 45+1 minute, they were awarded a corner kick. From this situation, Chile created a dangerous attack. The cross from the right wing was aimed at the second post and center-back Matias Catalan beat Otamendi in the air, but his diagonal header hit the post.
After the break, Argentina continued to dominate the game. Their relentless efforts helped Lionel Scaloni’s team achieve their goal. In the 48th minute, De Paul dropped the ball from the right wing to Alvarez, who then crossed it inside. Lautaro Martinez cleverly dropped the ball, allowing Mac Allister to run in and finish with one touch, opening the score for Argentina.
The excitement after the first goal helped Argentina play more confidently and they quickly doubled the gap. In the 84th minute, Lo Celso stole the ball from the Chilean player in the middle and passed it to the left wing for Alvarez. Argentina did not stop there. In the 90+1 minute, substitute Paulo Dybala sealed the 3-0 victory after a cross-angle shot from Garnacho’s assist.
In the end, Argentina won convincingly 3-0 against Chile. This result helped coach Scaloni’s team consolidate the top position in the South American World Cup qualifying round with 18 points after 7 matches.
