Barcelona couldn’t have been happier with the news about Dani Olmo’s injury

Olmo was dealing with a “serious injury,” according to Spain’s coach Luis de la Fuente, who expressed doubts about his availability for Sunday’s match against Switzerland. The 26-year-old midfield player, according to Mundo Deportivo, had more tests done on his knee to assess the seriousness of the issue and found it to be merely a bad bruise.

Olmo joined from Leipzig in the middle of August, but the transfer window ended before he could be officially added to the first squad. The Euro 2024 co-top scorer made an instant impression with a dream debut, netting the game’s final goal to secure the Catalans a 2-1 victory at Rayo Vallecano after missing the previous two games. Then, in a 7-0 victory over Valladolid, the former member of Barca’s renowned La Masia youth system scored another goal on his debut start. Had he not been denied by the crossbar and managed to post three times in those two games, his score would have been much more amazing.

Barca will be relieved to hear of Olmo’s injury, since they have already witnessed injuries to Robert Lewandowski and Fermin Lopez during the international break. Though it’s unclear if Olmo will play in the European champions’ upcoming game, Barca is more concerned about taking any risks. As the only side to win all four games in La Liga to start the season flawlessly, Barcelona will be hoping to avoid losing any more stars when they play Girona the following week.

Barca were also miffed about the coach of the Spain national team sending strong signals about another outstanding player, Lamine Yamal, with the intention of making the most of him. The 17-year-old winger may play against Switzerland on Sunday after playing the entire ninety minutes in the 0-0 draw with Serbia. “I informed them that having a player of that caliber is truly fortunate; he has and will continue to play numerous games for the national team,” De la Fuente remarked.

De la Fuente’s remarks are unlikely to sit well with Barcelona supporters, who have watched as their star midfielder Gavi remains out of action for nearly a year due to a ruptured knee ligament while playing for his country, and who have also lately witnessed injuries occur to Fermin Lopez and Pedri while playing for Spain.
