Scott McTominay is no longer a Manchester United player, having joined Napoli over the summer.
The midfielder’s scoring spree for Scotland is still very much on, as he bagged his 10th goal in 13 games by scoring against Portugal.
Despite Scotland’s 2-1 defeat, McTominay’s goal continued his incredible run of form.
While a lot of people applauded him for his deadly finishing, several opponents questioned why Man United even let him go.
To recap, the Red Devils sold him after being unable to get him to agree for a new contract; his previous one was due to expire next summer. Here are some reactions from X.
💬 Dirty Larry: “Can’t believe they didn’t think he was good enough for Man United..”
💬 RyanJackson: “United are gonna miss him this season, would’ve scored a lot of important goals for them.”
💬 PaulMat221: “Scott’s a fu– legend. Why did Utd get rid of him ffs.”
While Porrtugal eventually turned the game on its head, McTominay remained an energetic presence in midfield – continually dealing with Portuguese intrusions into the Scotland box and often carrying the ball forward well in attack.
He has now scored 10 goals in 17 international games for Scotland.
This is a tally any international striker would be quite happy with. McTominay’s record for a midfielder is excellent.
It continues to pose the question – was £25 million really enough for Scott McTominay?
