Leaving Chelsea, Coach Pochettino officially has a new destination in the United States

In a recent announcement from the US Soccer Federation, they officially confirmed the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as head coach.

 

On the morning of September 11, the US Soccer Federation officially announced the signing of coach Mauricio Pochettino, who will take on the role of leading the US National Team. Thus, not long after leaving Chelsea, this strategist officially has a new job.

Pochettino, 52 years old, is one of the most experienced coaches, he has had successful times with some of Europe’s top clubs such as Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain and most recently Chelsea. Pochettino is known for his ability to build a team with a dynamic playing style, the US Soccer Federation highly appreciates this quality of Pochettino and appointed him with the goal of leading the US national team at the 2026 World Cup on home soil.

U.S. Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker led the global search process and ultimately appointed Pochettino as head coach. He said: “Mauricio is a serial winner with a deep passion for player development and a proven ability to build cohesive, competitive teams.

Pochettino’s track record is testament to the fact that I believe he is the right choice to unlock the enormous potential of this talented US squad. We are delighted to have Mauricio join our team as we embark on this exciting journey to achieve international success.”

Sharing after officially signing a contract with the US Soccer Federation, Coach Pochettino said: “The decision to join the US national team for me is not just about football, but also the journey that this team and this country are going through. The energy, passion and desire here are truly historic, those are the things that inspired me.

I see a team full of talent and potential, together we will build something special that the whole country can be proud of”.

Leading the US national team is one of the dream jobs pursued by many big names, including Rafael Benitez. This position is considered a great opportunity for Pochettino, he will be hosting the 2026 World Cup with the US. Here, Pochettino will also reunite with the head coach of the US women’s team, Emma Hayes, with whom he had a good working relationship when both were at Chelsea.
