Although Kostas Tsimikas only made 15 starts for Liverpool in the last campaign, a new contract that would keep him with the team until 2027 is anticipated.
Andy Robertson has been Andy Robertson’s left-back for more than three seasons; Tsimikas was signed in the summer of 2020 to give him some competition.
The 27-year-old’s future was questioned all summer long due to Jurgen Klopp’s system shift, which raised concerns over his long-term status.
James Pearce of The Athletic has recently revealed that Tsimikas “has agreed a two-year extension to his current deal,” despite the fact that there was never any desire for the left-back to depart Anfield.
His current contract expires in 2025, and if he signs a two-year extension, it will keep him with the team for one more season than Robertson’s, which expires in 2026.
Although we haven’t seen him spend a lot of time in the new system, Tsimikas made 28 appearances for the Reds in all competitions during the previous season and will likely play a part in the forthcoming campaign.
The 27-year-old has started each of Liverpool’s first four games this season on the bench and has only been utilised once in the last four minutes against Bournemouth.
The Greek international has played for Liverpool in 62 games overall since 2020, with 15 starts from 28 games during the most recent campaign turning out to be his most productive.
It seems likely that he will have his chance in the Europa League and the first few stages of the national cups this year, as Klopp will be using these events to test and rest his team.
