Lisandro Martinez was a standout performer in Man Utd’s win over Southampton.
With a strong performance from Matthijs de Ligt, Man Utd triumphed 3-0. Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford both scored, and Manuel Ugarte had a respectable debut.
But not including Lisandro Martinez would be a mistake. For the footballer, the previous season was a nightmare due to injuries. He is in far better shape now.
Along with De Ligt, Martinez showed signs of forming a partnership that could form the foundation of a Man Utd defence.
He was almost everywhere in defence, covering well for his teammates and playing out from deep.
Martinez finished the game with a 97% passing accuracy (58/60), completing both dribbles, making two tackles and winning all his challenges (3/3)
Added to that seven recoveries and four interceptions, it was a truly all-round performance from the player affectionately known as ‘The Butcher’ by United fans.
