Barcelona pushed their formation high up the pitch, but the visitors were stuck against Girona’s disciplined and well-contained formation. However, the variety and variation in their play helped Barcelona make the difference.
In the 30th minute, Lamine Yamal stole the ball from defender David Lopez and easily scored in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper, opening the score at 1-0 for Barcelona. Seven minutes later, the 17-year-old star unleashed a dangerous left-footed shot in the penalty area that left the Girona goalkeeper helpless, raising the score to 2-0.
Early in the second half, Dani Olmo broke the offside trap and finished neatly after a great pass from Jules Kounde, helping Barcelona easily take a 3-0 lead. In the 64th minute, Pedri made his mark with a technical move, raising the score to 4-0 for Hansi Flick’s team.
In the remaining time, Girona’s efforts only helped them get a consolation goal from Cristhian Stuani. Barca’s victory became less joyful when in the 84th minute, Ferran Torres received a red card and left the field.

Barcelona beat Girona 4-1 to extend their winning streak in La Liga this season to 5, thereby continuing to top the rankings with 15 absolute points.
Hansi Flick’s side played simply, but cohesively, directly and effectively. They had 20 shots on target over 90 minutes, twice as many as the hosts’ nine. Barcelona also avenged their 2-4 away defeat to Girona last season.
In round 6 of La Liga, Barca will visit Villarreal next weekend. In midweek, the Catalan club will face Monaco in France in the first round of the 2024-25 Champions League group stage on September 15.
