The goal ignited wild celebrations among Pilgrims fans at Home Park, as they watched their team climb out of the relegation zone.

Rooney’s joy was evident on the touchline, with new footage capturing his reaction to Edwards’ decisive goal.

Initially, it took the manager a moment to register the goal, but then he threw his fists in the air, screaming in delight before celebrating with his coaching staff.

And the celebration ended up going viral on social media with one fan saying they “absolutely love this” clip of the 38-year-old boss.

Another added: “How can you not be buzzing and happy for Rooney after that winner! Incredible feeling and those scenes yesterday is why we love football!”

A third then put: “I’ve never wanted someone to succeed so much in my life… So many want to see him fail but, it’s clear that he cares. My Gaffer.”

Rooney continued to pump his fists and shout although he quickly regained his composure for the final moments of the match.

Plymouth held on for the win, with the home crowd chanting the manager’s name at full-time.

After the clash, Rooney said: “It was a good game. We were always in the game, even at 1-0 down I think we ended the first half okay.

“But we just needed a bit more energy, a bit more tempo and a bit more creativity, more crosses, more shots on goal, which I thought we did all in the second half.

“We were very good in the second half and over the course of 90 minutes, I felt we just deserved to win.”

Plymouth suffered a 4-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in their opening match of the new Championship season.

Following this, Plymouth recorded 1-1 draws against Hull City and QPR and then suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Stoke City.

However, after eliminating Cheltenham Town from the Carabao Cup, their victory over Sunderland was their second win of the season overall.

Plymouth is now 16th in the Championship with five points, but they will soon have a challenging schedule of games ahead of them.

The next weekend, they’ll play at home against West Brom, who are competing for promotion.

Following that, on September 27, Luton Town will go to Home Park on the road. In October, they will play their first test match of the season against Burnley.
