The Liverpool player Cody Gakpo was captured on camera feeding children while on a vacation to his father’s home nation of Tonga. 

A week after competing against the Netherlands in the Nations League, the 24-year-old can be seen serving bowlfuls of food to a group of waiting young people in a video uploaded to TikTok. 

After falling to Italy 2-3 in the third-place play-off match, Gakpo’s team was able to secure fourth place in the competition.

According to ESPN, Gakpo’s decision over where to go after the season is influenced by his desire to return to Tošo, with the player reportedly looking into the potential of starting a commercial initiative there.

However, even after being approached by Togo’s football association four years ago to switch to international leagues, the former PSV player remained unwavering in his decision to play for the Dutch national team, where he has been featured since the U18 level.

With two weeks remaining in his off-season, Gakpo will return to Liverpool for pre-season training and the unofficial kickoff of the Reds’ 2023–24 season. 

The player joined the Merseyside squad in January 2023, but he hasn’t had a preseason under manager Jurgen Klopp. He will be eager to build on his brilliant debut in six months for the team in fifth position. 

Gakpo has made 21 starts under Klopp and scored seven goals while dishing out three more assists.
