Coach Luis Castro parted ways with Al Nassr after the Saudi Arabian team’s disappointing performance since the start of the season.

After Al Nassr’s disappointing draw with Al Shorta in the opening match of the AFC Champions League Elite on September 16, the Saudi Arabian club’s leadership has run out of patience. Arab News reported that the Al Nassr leadership has sacked coach Luis Castro and hired a new coach to salvage the season before it’s too late.

Sky Italy revealed that Stefano Pioli, former AC Milan coach, will take over at Al Nassr. Pioli is currently free after leaving Milan in May. Pioli will be Al Nassr’s fourth coach in just 18 months.

Shortly after Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at Al Nassr, head coach Rudi García was sacked in April 2023. Rudi García’s successor, Danko Jelicic, only lasted two months. At the beginning of last season, the Al Nassr leadership decided to sign Castro, a Portuguese coach.

Al Nassr sẽ sa thải HLV Luis Castro.

Luis Castro received great support from Ronaldo. Saudi Arabian media revealed that the Portuguese superstar played an important role in Al Nassr appointing Castro as head coach.

However, the Portuguese coach could not help the team win an important championship title in the 2023/24 season, except for the Arab Club Champions Cup, a friendly tournament.

Al Nassr started the 2024/25 season quite poorly. They opened with a heavy 1-4 loss to Al Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup final. After the first 3 rounds of the Saudi Arabian Premier League, Al Nassr drew 2 and won only 1, dropping to 7th place in the rankings. The 1-1 draw against weaker opponent Al Shorta (Iraq) in the opening day of the AFC Champions League Elite was the last straw for the Al Nassr leadership.
