Inter Miami lead MLS with impressive performance, aiming for the Supporters’ Shield title in a heated race with LA Galaxy and LAFC.
As MLS enters its final stages of the 2024 season, Inter Miami is in fine form, leading the Eastern Conference with 62 points after 28 games. With 19 wins, 5 draws and only 4 losses, the team is gradually asserting its position in the race for the Supporters’ Shield (awarded to the top team in the points calculation phase).
With six games remaining, Inter Miami have the opportunity to add another 18 points to their total, taking their total to a maximum of 80. That’s an impressive tally, but to be sure of winning the title, they’ll need to continue their form and come up with an effective strategy against the remaining heavyweights. This is especially important as the two top teams in the West, LA Galaxy and LAFC, are also in a heated race for the title.
LA Galaxy currently have 55 points with 5 games left, which could be as high as 70 points. Meanwhile, LAFC, with 48 points and 7 games left, can also finish at 69 points with consecutive wins. This requires Inter Miami to win at least 8-9 points in the upcoming matches to protect their lead.

The pink club’s biggest stars are Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, who are among the league’s top scorers with 17 and 14 goals respectively. Despite missing a lot of time due to injury or international duty, Messi has 14 assists this season, third in the league.
If he and his teammates win the MLS Supporters’ Shield this year, it will be the 46th title in Messi’s illustrious career – the most of all time.

Inter Miami is also one of the MLS leaders with the fewest points dropped when leading, with 4 points. The top spot belongs to Cincinnati with 3 points.
Clearly, the Florida club have a explosive attack, especially with Lionel Messi fit. The question mark is the defence, but that has improved recently, with them conceding just two goals in three games.
