Against Villarreal, who were considered very difficult to play against at home, Barcelona started the match cautiously. Coach Hansi Flick fielded his strongest lineup with attacking stars such as Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal.

Young talent Lamine Yamal earned a penalty in the 65th minute after VAR technology intervened to determine that he had been fouled by Eric Bailly in the box. However, Lewandowski hit the post from the 11m mark.

Facing Barcelona’s superiority, Villarreal could only huddle together and defend. Barcelona attacked with great skill and scored two more goals thanks to Raphinha in the 74th and 83rd minutes, sealing a 5-1 victory for Hansi Flick’s team.

The victory helped Barcelona maintain their lead in the 2024-25 La Liga standings with a perfect 18 points after 6 matches. Barcelona have a chance to improve their all-win record as they only face two weak opponents, Getafe and Osasuna, in the next rounds.
