Liverpool’s increasing tourism has led travel firm Expedia to designate the city as one of the top ten globally trending destinations in its Unpack 2024 guide. Liverpool is seeing a 100% annual increase in traveler searches as more visitors from the US, Canada, Australia, Norway, and Ireland opt to visit the city.
“I have an intense love for travelling,” Van Dijk remarked. “I love to travel with my friends and family whenever I have spare time since football gives us the chance to see so many cities without having the chance to really experience them. I’m excited to be working with Expedia because we both believe that travel is what brought us together.
The Reds skipper, Van Dijk, has joined Expedia as a new ambassador in honour of Liverpool’s rising fame. The legendary Cavern Club, which launched The Beatles’ careers, the renowned Royal Albert Dock, and, of course, Anfield, where Van Dijk has spent the last six years, are just a few of the places the Dutch defender has selected for his ultimate travel guide.Along with some of his teammates, Van Dijk put together a trip guide that highlights the top ten things to do in Liverpool, including historical places and of course, football. A visit to the recently constructed, five-star Municipal Hotel and Spa on Dale Street, the individually run restaurants and pubs on Lark Lane, and the immersive gaming, art, and cultural experience of Cains Brewery Village are also included in the itinerary.The Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk, has accepted a new role as an advocate for city transit.
