In the Carabao Cup, Chiesa is making his debut as a Liverpool player.
Federico Chiesa had hardly made his debut start at Anfield when Liverpool supporters were already expressing the same sentiments about him.
Chiesa paid £10 million to join the Reds from Juventus, but throughout the first few weeks of the season, he didn’t get any playing time.
Having played little for the previous five months, manager Arne Slot stated earlier this week that the Italian winger was still unable to play a full 90 minutes.
However, he gave him his first start when Liverpool played West Ham in the Carabao Cup.
Despite falling behind 1-0 early on due to an own goal by Jarell Quansah, Liverpool tied the score on 27 minutes thanks to a goal by Diogo Jota, with Chiesa getting the assist.
However, the winger had already inspired Liverpool supporters before that, even though he had hardly touched the ball at Anfield.
“I honestly have never seen a player so happy and excited to play for us like Chiesa is,” a fan remarked. The best thing is that passion.”
“Chiesa actually hasn’t stopped smiling since he joined Liverpool,” said one commenter.
Another commented, “Chiesa running up and down the pitch like rent is due tomorrow and he needs to get paid, love it.”
A fourth person said, “Chiesa stop smiling challenge: Impossible.”
Late in the first half, the 26-year-old had a half-chance to score his first goal for Liverpool, but he curled his shot over the crossbar.
He played seven minutes during Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Bournemouth, making his debut for Anfield off the bench.
“Hearing You’ll Never Walk Alone for the first time from the bench, it was amazing,” he said to Liverpool’s official website following the game.
“We lost, but it was fantastic even against Nottingham Forest. But today was truly incredible. It was enjoyable in every way.
“Today, I just had to be ready [to play], and when the coach told me to get in the game I was so happy and relieved because I wanted to play here at Anfield.”
