The No. 8 jersey, which was primarily used by Gerrard, was given to Szoboszlai when Naby Keita departed the team.

Many Liverpool players have always looked up to Gerrard because of his achievements in Istanbul and dedication to the Merseyside club.

The late England midfielder, who is tattooed with the words, “Talent is a divine blessing, but without incredible will and humility, it is worth nothing,” on his arm, is another person for whom Szoboszlai has admiration.

Szoboszlai describes Gerrard’s tattoo.

The Hungary international explained his decision to wear the No. 8 jersey in an interview with LFCTV upon his arrival at Anfield.

It’s a big number, he said, but not for any particular reason.

Great players have utilised this number a lot.

Steven Gerrard also gave me a tattoo and mentioned something once that I can’t even recall.

The number eight was worn prominently by Oyvind Leonhardsen, Stan Collymore, Jamie Redknapp, and Paul Stewart before Emile Heskey took it over from Gerrard.

After a dismal 2022–23 campaign, Szoboszlai will try to rekindle Liverpool’s title hopes by imitating Gerrard’s exploits in a red shirt.
