Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez was spotted apologising to fans after the club’s humiliating loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
As Ange Postecoglou’s team defeated United 3-0, Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke all found the scoresheet.
United now sits in 12th place after their six games, having only managed seven points. Additionally, Erik ten Hag’s team now has a -3 goal differential.
Minutes before the match ended, a large number of United supporters could be seen leaving Old Trafford, seemingly fed up with what they saw.
Many more remained behind and a section of them received an apology from Martinez.
In a video that has surfaced on social media, the Argentina international is seen responding to fans by putting his hands hands up and clasping them together in a praying gesture.
Martinez took the captain’s armband from Bruno Fernandes after the Portuguese playmaker was sent off in the first half.
While his gesture may be appreciated in some quarters, the best thing he and his teammates can do to repay United’s loyal fans is simply to play better and not constantly let themselves be outdone by rival teams.
Up next for United is a Europa League meeting with Porto on Thursday.
