Thomas Partey’s importance at Arsenal has been severely diminished since Declan Rice’s move from West Ham. The Ghanaian midfielder has struggled with injuries since last season and is on the verge of leaving the club.
Barca target Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey
Recently, Spanish newspaper Fichajes reported that Barca and Atletico Madrid are considering recruiting Thomas Partey on a free transfer when the player’s contract expires in the summer of 2025.
Barca have been on the hunt for a defensive midfielder since Sergio Busquets left for Inter Miami last summer. After an unsuccessful experiment with Oriol Romeu last summer, Barca have been using Marc Bernal and Marc Casado in that position under Hansi Flick. However, both players are still very young. The experience of a player like Thomas Partey would be invaluable to Barca’s young prospects.
Atletico, on the other hand, do not have a good balance in midfield at the moment. Reuniting with Thomas Partey is a good option. The Ghanaian player played impressively for Atletico before moving to Arsenal. Returning to the Metropolitano will give Partey good mental support in the context of his continuous injuries in recent times.
Despite losing his place in midfield to Declan Rice, Thomas Partey has started every game for Arsenal this season. Arteta is still finding ways to use Partey effectively and ensure results for Arsenal.
