Barcelona’s annual financial report for the 2023-24 season details that Sergio Agüero has filed a lawsuit demanding that the club pay him €3m under the terms of his contract.

Agüero joined Barça in the summer of 2021, signing a two-year contract, but had to end his professional career in December 2021 after being diagnosed with a heart condition.

At the time of his departure, he agreed to waive the payment for the second year but still wanted to receive his full salary for the first year. At that time, he participated in a number of matches with the Catalan team.

In June 2024, a mediation action took place between Barça and Agüero but the issue was not resolved. Agüero was willing to accept a long-term payment plan and wanted to close the case with as little fuss as possible.
