Dominik Szoboszlai’s pair of goals gave Hungary a 2-0 victory away at Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday night.
The Liverpool midfielder netted either side of half-time to decide the UEFA Nations League contest.
Szoboszlai broke the deadlock with a finish from inside the box after 38 minutes, then grabbed his second from the penalty spot.
The brace will come as a welcome sign for Slot and Liverpool fans ahead of Sunday’s return to Premier League action against Chelsea.
Elsewhere, Ibrahima Konate was a starter for France and played all of their 2-1 success against Belgium.
Konate looked unthreatened throughout most of the match. He made six clearances, two blocks and one interception in a good performance. He was also booked for a foul.
Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch were involved from the start in the Netherlands’ 1-0 defeat by Germany, with both featuring for over an hour.
Ryan Gravenberch sought to capitalise on his solid start to the 2024-25 campaign, and was arguably The Netherlands’ most productive midfielder, but Germany’s opposing midfield proved a difficult challenge for the 22-year-old, and he was replaced after their opening goal.
Like his teammates, Gakpo struggled to get the attack flowing up front, and while he was able to make some runs down the left-hand side, they yielded little-to-no success, with Malen moving into that position when he came on for the second-half.
