After the match ended, the organizers held a ceremony to award the championship to Inter Miami. It was no surprise that Messi was asked to stand in the middle to lift the trophy as Inter Miami’s captain.
However, instead of doing so, Messi gave this honor to goalkeeper Drake Callender. This goalkeeper is considered the “founding father” of Inter Miami. He was at the club before Messi joined in the summer of 2023. Instead of lifting the trophy, Messi stood by and watched Drake Callender do it.
Drake Callender then invited Messi and Sergio Busquets to lift the trophy with him. Messi’s humble act earned him a shower of compliments from fans around the world. Everyone admired the Argentine superstar’s way of treating his teammates.
Here are some comments on Twitter:
“Messi deserves to be the captain of Inter Miami”.
“Messi deserves the GOAT (Best Player of All Time)”.
“Messi is always like that. He puts himself below the team and doesn’t want to take credit for himself.”
“Messi’s greatness starts from small gestures like that.”
