BIG FISHING: Man United eyeing cut-price deal for Ronald Araujo as Barca star has contract ending in 2026

Manchester United had to come back from a goal down to beat Brentford 2-1 on Saturday, with the result coming as a huge relief to the embattled Erik ten Hag.

There were positives from the game as the attack really purred in the second half while Matthijs de Ligt battled hard despite a nasty gash on his head.

But there were concerns injury-wise with both Casemiro and Jonny Evans coming off due to probable injuries and while the extent is not currently known, the defence is struggling due to numerous injuries.

Harry Maguire is sidelined along with both left full-backs and with Victor Lindelof’s contract coming to an end, there are plans to revamp the backline again next summer.

Araujo interest

CaughtOffside have claimed that the Red Devils are keeping a close tab on Ronald Araujo of Barcelona, whose contract ends in 2026.

The Catalan club have plans of offering him a new deal but if talks do not progress satisfactorily between both parties in the coming months, the 20-time English league champions could pounce next summer and bag the Uruguayan for a reduced fee.

The report also adds that Chelsea are closely monitoring proceedings. The 25-year-old is currently out with a hamstring injury and is yet to play this season, something suitors should definitely keep in mind when progressing in talks.

“Manchester United and Chelsea are still interested in a potential transfer deal for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo and will be monitoring his situation amid talks over a new contract at the Nou Camp, CaughtOffside understands.

United, Chelsea in the race

“Barcelona president Joan Laporta has spoken publicly about trying to keep Araujo and other key players, with talks over new deals seemingly taking place already or set to take place soon.

“However, sources close to the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Man Utd and Chelsea are still keen on Araujo, so could be prepared to make a move for the 25-year-old if there’s no progress over contract talks in the next few months.”

Despite having a poor injury record, the Uruguayan international has been a tremendous asset to the Spanish powerhouses over the years and is valued at €70 million according to Transfermarkt.

Araujo’s transfer makes a lot of sense, but only if he can improve his injury record. United’s defense has also deteriorated since the previous season, so an upgrade is greatly needed.
