It is widely speculated that Alphonso Davies is likely to leave Bayern Munich next summer when his contract expires, but his next destination remains unclear. Real Madrid has been regarded as the preferred club of Canadians internationally for most of the past year. But given his contract expires in June, the current Champions League winners have been reluctant to move in past transfer windows.
Though Bayern keeps trying to stay longer, it looks more and more likely that Davies will go unless something major comes about. Although Real Madrid has long been considered as the leader, other teams are now in the mix.
Toni Juanmartí of Diario Sport (via @iMiaSanMia) that Barcelona also wants Davies signed as a free agent next summer. First conversations, supposedly, have been had with favorable comments from Davies’s camp. As with many of Barcelona’s recent pursuits, financial constraints could pose a challenge, but the club remains optimistic about putting together a suitable offer—especially if Davies prioritizes a move to the Catalan giants.
Davies can sign a pre-contract with another team as early as January; his deal is slated to expire next Summer. Barcelona has more urgency now since they are trying to fight off Real Madrid’s challenge. Getting Davies in the forthcoming transfer window is a high-stakes fight for both Spanish rivals.
